一、英国圣保罗大教堂(St.Paul s Cathedral)

圣保罗大教堂，坐落于英国伦敦，位于伦敦泰晤士河北岸纽盖特街与纽钱吉街交角处，巴洛克风格建筑的代表，以其壮观的圆形屋顶而闻名，是世界第二大圆顶教堂，它模仿罗马的圣彼得大教堂，是英国古典主义建筑的代表。

圣保罗大教堂最早在604年建立，后经多次毁坏、重建，由英国著名设计大师和建筑家克托弗.雷恩爵士（Sir Christopher Wren）在17世纪末完成这伦敦最伟大的教堂设计，整整花了45年的心血。圣保罗教堂另一个建筑特色，是少数设计、建筑分别仅由一人完成，而非历经多位设计、建筑师的教堂之一，目前教堂内还有一个雷恩的墓碑，上书“If you seek his monument, just look around”。

教堂平面为拉丁十字形，纵轴156.9米，横轴69.3米。十字交叉的上方矗有两层圆形柱廊构成的高鼓座，其上是巨大的穹顶，直径34米，离地面 111米。教堂正门上部的人字墙上，雕刻着圣保罗到大马士革传教的图画，墙顶上立着圣保罗的石雕像，整个建筑显得很对称且雄伟。正面建筑两端建有一对对称的钟楼，西北角的钟楼为教堂用钟，西南角的钟楼里吊有一口17吨重的大铜钟。教堂内有方形石柱支撑的拱形大厅，各处施以金碧辉煌的重色彩绘，窗户嵌有彩色玻璃，四壁挂着耶稣、圣母和使徒巨幅壁画。唱诗班席位的镂刻木工，圣殿大厅和教长住处螺旋形楼梯上的精湛铁工，都反映了当年的高度艺术与装饰水平。教堂内还有王公、将军、名人的坟墓和纪念碑，如两位11世纪撒克逊国王、威灵顿将军、雷恩建筑师的坟墓。

圣保罗大教堂最令人印象深刻的就是1981年黛安娜与查尔斯的婚礼大典，到现在仍然不减圣保罗大教堂对旅客的吸引力，因其整体建筑设计优雅、完美，内部静谧、安详。

大教堂内还有两座存放着中世纪武士勋章、圣迈克尔和圣乔治骑士团勋章和英帝国勋章的小教堂, 另有一座为纪念第二次世界大战中在英国牺牲的美国人的纪念堂。圣保罗大教堂是英国人民的精神支柱, 被视为火焰中飞舞的凤凰再度升起的地方．

二、英国威斯敏斯特教堂（Westminster Abbey）

威斯敏斯特教堂是英国著名的新教教堂，它的历史就是伦敦乃至英国历史的缩影。威斯敏斯特教堂宏伟、壮观，是英国哥特式建筑的杰作，也是英国历史文物的集萃之地。

威斯敏斯特教堂的前身是隐修院，13世纪英国国王亨利三世下令采用当时的哥特式风格对教堂进行改建。1245年动工，1517年基本完工。教堂的平面呈拉丁十字型，总长156年，宽22米；大穹窿顶高31米，钟楼高68.5米。教堂的柱廊宏伟凝重，双塔高耸挺拔。堂内装饰精致华丽，玻璃窗五彩缤纷。

威斯敏斯特的本义是西部大教堂的意思。由于这座教堂在伦敦城的西部，便得此名。早在8世纪；这里便有教堂了，但只是在爱德华忏海王建立起这座教堂之后，这一带才成为身份不凡的地区。

在这座教堂建成之后不过几日，忏悔王便死去了，也没有王位继承人。正当皇亲国成为此争吵不休之际，诺尔曼人威廉从法国而来，并一举压制、征服了英格兰。可是，怎样才能向公众展示自己是爱德华王的正当继承者呢？最终，他想出了一个绝妙的办法：在爱德华王建造的这座教堂内举行盛大的登基仪式。于是，1066年，威廉在此登上了英国王位。从那以后，共有40位皇帝在此登基。

教堂建筑为哥特式，数个由彩色玻璃嵌饰的尖顶并列在一起，美丽绝伦。

教堂中间还有一处拥挤的墓场，埋葬有诸多伟大人物。由于人数众多，不得不将棺停竖起来埋放在地下。最终还是无处插针，才开始将伟人们向圣保罗教堂转移。

威斯敏斯特教堂不仅是宗教圣地，而且是英国王室的活动场所。从11世纪胜利王威廉开始，除爱德华五世和爱德华八世外，其他英国国王都在此加冕登基。王室的结婚、葬礼等仪式也在这里举行。威斯敏斯特教堂不仅是20多位英国国王的墓地，也是一些著名政治家、科学家、军事家、文学家的墓地，其中有丘吉尔、牛顿、达尔文、狄更斯、布朗宁等人之墓。

威斯敏斯特教堂在伦敦威斯敏斯特教堂的现址上，曾有过一座自东撒克逊王塞伯特在公元7世纪建造后便长期矗立的教堂。当时，它本应建在托尼岛。该岛现在已经消失，因为泰晤士河道变窄后它与岸地融为一体。这座教堂的建立似乎是遵循圣彼得的指教，据说他曾在首位主教梅里图斯领行的封圣典礼上现身。从巴耶彩图（彩织广景壁画，生动详细地记录了11世纪诺曼征服者威廉侵占英格兰的过程。传说为威廉王后玛蒂尔达亲织，画中共有1152人和72幕场景。）上看，这座老教堂建有中心塔楼、交成十字横线的两侧耳堂和铅板屋顶。
