北京晨报文化副刊部主任蔡辉说，莫言的获奖将可能推动中国严肃文学的发展，给年轻作家带来更多的机会。“他是新时期十年文学的代表，也是他的顶峰，他最好的创作也是在那十年。这个获奖有两大意义，第一是打破了我们心中对诺贝尔文学奖过度崇拜的情节。第二是至少从某种意义上大家开始重新审视纯文学了，可能让很多出版人、决策人关注纯文学的创作，特别是给年轻人提供一些机会。”

莫言表示，目前，他正在准备有关战争、家庭以及话剧剧本、戏曲等作品的准备工作。他说，他将继续脚踏实地描写人的故事。“脚踏实地，描写人的生活，描写人的情感，站在人的角度上写作。”
