苔丝是一个美丽善良的农村姑娘,由于家境贫寒,不得不到富人家攀亲,不幸被亚雷·德伯诱奸而蒙羞回家。

由于不堪忍受乡里邻居的风言风语,苔丝到远离家乡的奶牛场打工,在那里她与牧师的儿子安琪·克莱尔相遇、相恋,并决定结婚。在新婚之夜,苔丝坦白了自己过去的不幸遭遇,然而克莱尔无法忍受这个现实,抛弃她远走巴西。

为了贫困的家庭,苔丝被迫再次沦为亚雷的情妇。经过一番痛苦的挣扎,克莱尔从巴西回来请求苔丝的谅解。在愤怒和绝望中苔丝杀死了亚雷,和克莱尔一起度过了短暂的幸福时光,最后由于谋杀罪而被绞死。我认为造成苔丝悲剧的原因有很多：

苔丝的悲剧源于苔丝性格的妥协性，表现在她和安琪儿的关系上。恋人之间本是平等的，而苔丝却一味贬低自己,抬高安琪儿，这是多么浓烈﹑炽热却又卑躬屈膝的爱。她悲惨的过去,得不到安琪儿的宽容，面对安琪儿无情的抛弃,苔丝没有做丝毫反抗。安琪儿离去了,苔丝对他的爱却从未削减，一封封热情洋溢的信,却唤不回安琪儿冰冷的心，在爱情面前,苔丝失去了自我,失去了尊严，正是这种盲目的﹑不平等的爱,使苔丝放弃了一个妻子争取幸福的权利,深化了苔丝的悲剧。

苔丝的悲剧也是由她异常低下的社会经济、政治和阶级地位造成的,没有任何社会地位的破落家庭直接导致了悲剧的发生。她虚荣的父亲一心想恢复昔日显赫的德伯维尔家族的荣耀;她无知的母亲一直梦想让漂亮的苔丝嫁入豪门,成为阔太太,借此解决日益严峻的家庭危机。苔丝从来不考虑个人的忧患得失,一心关注家人的生活。家中老马的意外死亡,也就是苔丝悲惨命运的开始,她认为自己应该对家庭负责,照顾好弟弟妹妹,所以她向冒牌本家求助,亚雷·德伯利用苔丝的天真淳朴,无耻地诱奸了她。新婚丈夫抛弃她以后,她凭着坚强的意志自力更生,屡次抵制亚雷的物质诱惑,但是父亲去世后,为了让家人有栖身之处,她再次委身亚雷,过着“行尸走肉”般的生活,此时她的精神世界已经崩溃了。

关于苔丝最后的结局，我们能看到“人在现实社会中的生存,本身就是极大的悲哀”。人类悲剧的原因不是人类本身的行为造成的,而是一种超自然的力量主宰着人类的命运。而且“人们在情势以及支配情势的命运面前是软弱无力的”。

“我过去是牺牲品，就永远是牺牲品——这就是规律！”在燧石山农场苔丝又一次遇到阿历克时无奈、绝望地喊出这么一句话。作为封建社会的底层农民阶级又是个妇女，她权利无几，却又处处受伤。

在官方说法中《德伯家的苔丝》描写的是威塞克斯破产农民的前途和命运。这点的确不可否认，以苔丝一家在父亲死后全家被逐离且无处可去的困境，以苔丝个人被阿历克伤害、因非己之过被克莱尔抛弃、在燧石山农场被农场主欺负以及最后以死亡收场的悲剧命运，体现了威塞克斯破产农民的无望、孤苦渺茫的前途和悲苦、注定被牺牲、抛弃的命运。苔丝一家正是这苦难的破产农民的缩影。

然而，我从《苔丝》这本书中看到的更多的是女性在男权社会下的苦难与无奈。

在当时社会，苔丝算是一个比较富有思想、善于思考的女性。如在第十三章有那么一句“有时候，她的离奇幻想会强化周围的自然程序，直到它们似乎变成她的历史中的一部分，它们岂止是变成她的历史的一部分，简直就是她自己的历史，因为世界只是一种心理现象，表面上看起来像什么，它实际上就是什么。”

正因她爱思考，才会多幻想。同时她也是一个纯粹的唯心主义者，她在奶牛场时“对于她来说，整个世界的存在全凭她的感觉，所有的生物的存在也全凭她的存在。对于苔丝，宇宙本身的诞生，就是在她降生的某一年中的某一天里诞生的。”。正因如此苔丝更显天真、活泼，对于这个世界充满着无限的热爱，即使在受了那样的耻辱后，走向牛奶场时仍能“精神奇妙地振作起来。迎着温柔的南风，她一路跳跃着向前走去，她的希望同阳光融合在一起，似乎幻化成一道环绕着她的光环”，甚至在一声鸟的啼鸣里“也似乎潜藏着欢愉”。

不过她的思考也给她自己带来了诸多困扰，在克莱尔想教她历史时，她回答说“除了我已经知道的东西以外，就不想知道更多的东西了”、“知道了又怎么样呢，只不过是一长串人中的一个，只不过发现某本古书中有一个和我一样的人，只不过知道我要扮演他的角色，让我难过而已”、“我倒想学一学为什么——为什么太阳都同样照耀好人和坏人？不过那是书本里不会讲的”。

然而如此善良、美丽而又聪慧的苔丝，仍逃脱不开被牺牲的厄运，在传统封建男权社会中仍要经历着苦难，却无力反抗。

首先是苔丝的父母一心想“认亲”，却将苔丝推入阿历克的“虎口”，这是苔丝悲剧命运的开始。是阿历克让她失贞，让她在众人面前抬不起头，让她只敢在傍晚出门，让她害怕人类：“她知道怎样抓住傍晚时分极短的那个时刻。那时候，光明和黑暗恰到好处地得到平衡，白昼的拘束和黑夜的紧张相互得到中和，留下来的是心灵上的绝对自由，只有在那个时候，活着的苦恼才被减到最小的可能程度。她并不害怕黑夜，她唯一的念头就是避开人类——或者不如说是被称作世界的冷酷的生命群体。”。

接下来，虽然在奶牛场苔丝重获新生，却又被克莱尔抛弃。苔丝能宽恕他的放荡，他却无法原谅苔丝的非出于己意的失贞，甚至说“我以前一直爱的那个人不是你，是和你一模一样的另外一个女人”。而这主要是因为克莱尔头脑中的传统道德评价。在传统社会，男人可以放荡，女人却必须对男人绝对忠贞。这不仅仅只是苔丝的悲剧，更是诸多在此种社会背景下的群体女性的悲剧——封建男权体制传统道德思想体系下的牺牲品。

后来是在燧石山农场，苔丝在哪里不仅受农场主的折磨，还有阿历克的纠缠不休。就是在那里，在阿历克再次找苔丝时，苔丝在用手套甩了他一掌后，绝望地喊出：“我过去是牺牲品，就永远是牺牲品——这就是规律！”。阿历克这个苔丝一生灾难的开端，如今却可以皈依宗教，她却因他被丈夫抛弃，受尽苦难，“他本是给她带来祸根的人，现在却站在了神灵那一边，而她本是受害的人，现在灵魂却还没有得到新生”。

最后，苔丝苦难的一生以死亡收场。虽然克莱尔最后宽恕了她，但，就如苔丝在他们再次见面是说的那样“太晚了”，苔丝无法原谅那个再次被阿历克欺骗的自己。但为了与克莱尔团圆，她选择杀了阿历克。她这一悲壮的反抗，仍逃不开被处罚的命运。从始至终，牺牲的都是苔丝……

书中有一句话，形象地表现了一群像苔丝一样在男权社会传统道德思想压迫下的女性的无奈与绝望：“她用眼睛看着他说，那目光就像是一只被人抓住的麻雀，感到绝望又不能反抗，只好等着抓住它的人拧断脖子。”。

“我过去是牺牲品，就永远是牺牲品——这就是规律！”

这就是传统道德约束的男权社会的规律，这就是群体女性的悲剧……

前一段日子，读完了《苔丝》——流着眼泪读完的。

这是我第二次读这篇小说了，可从次数上来看虽是第二次，实质上只能说是第一次，或者说是一次多一点点。我第一次看这篇小说的时候才只是一个小学生，对文学作品的理解能力有限，而且读得也很粗略，那时，我对《苔丝》的唯一印象就是挺好看的，苔丝这个人物挺可怜的，除此以外便所剩无几了，根本没有把自己融入整个情节中去，根本没有对苔丝这个悲剧性的人物作过任何有意识的评价，根本没有想过苔丝一步一步走向毁灭是与其性格，与她所处的环境是如此密不可分。这一次阅读，我不敢说我已经看懂了，但我对整个情节有了比以往更深刻的了解。

《苔丝》的作者托马斯·哈代在这篇小说中体现出了他悲观的宿命论，主人公苔丝陷入悲惨境地，但她无论如何挣扎都无济于事，改变不了命运的安排与戏弄，最后走上绝路。但她走上绝路，绝不像某些低俗小说那样一味追求情节曲折而硬让主人公死去，而是有其一定的必然性。在故事的开端，当苔丝的父亲约翰·德比被告知自己这样一个贫穷小贩竟是古代德伯家族——一个十分高贵显要的家庭的后裔后，她的父母要她去有钱的德伯太太家攀亲戚，她天性纯朴，厌恶趋炎附势，不同意去，但后来，她由于担心喝得酩酊大醉的父亲半夜外出送蜂密进城会出现意外，才与弟弟一起替父亲跑一次腿，然而途中却出现了意外——她家唯一一匹赶车的马被轧死了，失去一匹马对他们这样一个贫困的家庭来说就是失去了用以维持生活的工具。在埋葬这匹衰老枯瘦的马时，几个孩子们都放声大哭，苔丝没有，“他脸色苍白，没有表情，似乎认为她自己是谋杀者”，书中是这样描写的。然后她带着一种负罪感――是她自己的疏忽大意才使家庭的生活出现了危机，和她对父母的孝顺，对弟弟妹妹们的关爱，以及她强烈的责任感——必须使家庭摆脱困境的责任感，去了德伯太太家攀亲戚，也导致了她被亚历克·德伯玷污，给她日后的生活蒙上了一层抹不去的阴影。她的孩子在死前，她坚持要让这个不清白的小小的肉欲的产物受洗礼，也是强烈的责任感趋使她这样做的。如此说来，苔丝性格中最不容忽视的一点便是她强烈的责任感了，正如苔丝坚决地要把与亚历克·德伯的那一段不快的往事告诉她所深爱，并且也深爱她的丈夫安吉尔一样，她原本可以完完全全地把这件事隐藏起来，说像她母亲教她的，然而，苔丝没有，她把这件事原原本本地告诉了安吉尔，书里这样写道：“她说得很轻，但很坚决。”苔丝把这件事告诉了安吉尔，而不愿意隐瞒事实，致使安吉尔承受不住打击而与她分居，也正是源于她那责任心，不是吗?现在看整篇文章中给我印象最深的一段吧，就是苔丝杀了亚历克后追上安吉尔的时候：“„„克莱尔停住脚步，以询问的目光望着苔丝。‘安吉尔’，苔丝说，好像她一直等待着他们停步时克莱尔会这样看着她，‘你知道我为什么要追你吗?我要告诉你我把他杀了!’她这么说的时候脸上露出令人同情的惨淡微笑。”“令人同情的惨淡微笑”，你能想象一个人在杀了人后所露出的这种表情吗?如她自己所说的“我杀了他——也不知道是怎么把他杀死的。不过，安吉尔，为了你，也为了我自己，我非这么做不可。”显然，苔丝把杀死亚历克看成是她应尽的责任，是她必须完成的任务，为她自己，也为她丈夫。亚历克是笼罩在她心头的阴影，亚历克死了，她只觉得如释重负，只觉得自己是完成了任务，所以她急着要告诉她丈夫，这大概也就是她脸上会露出微笑，而不是杀过人后的慌乱、惊恐无措。因而在她生命的最后五天——与安吉尔在一起的五天——一生中最幸福的五天中过的生活是恬静的，她的心情也是平静的，她对待死亡的坦然也感染了逮捕她的人，“她站起身来，整了整衣服向前走去;那些人还一个也没有起步。‘我准备好了’，她平静地说。”我想，苔丝或许是带着幸福，甚至是带

着满足感死去的，因为她觉得她死了，再也看不见安吉尔会看不起她了。这从她被逮捕前所说的话中是可以看出来的。

至此为止，我所说的都是苔丝，也许你会问起安吉尔为什么会接受不了苔丝曾被亚历克玷污并产有一子这一残酷事实而提出与她分居，他不是很爱苔丝吗?难道他对苔丝的爱并不是高尚的吗?那么，我要说，他是因为太爱苔丝了，他心目中的苔丝是如此美丽，如此善良，是一切纯洁的象征，他忍受不了他眼中所见，心目所想的苔丝有任何过错，他努力扼杀自己对苔丝的感情，他觉得那个属于他的苔丝已经不存在了，在他眼前的，已经不是他以前所深恋的苔丝，而是有着苔丝形貌的另一个女人。新婚之夜，也就是苔丝把往事告诉他的那个夜晚，也就是他们开始分居的那个夜晚，他曾梦游，抱着苔丝走到了树林中，把苔轻轻放在一口棺材中，看过这篇小说的人一定不会忘记他当时所一直重复说的那一句话：“死了，死了，苔丝，我的妻子死了，死了。”在他的心中，最最美好的那个苔丝死了，不存在了，他的悲痛，他的绝情，他的弃苔丝而去的行为，正是因为他觉得自己失去了当初最真最纯的苔丝。

至于亚历克，我不想多说，他给苔丝带来的灾难是显而易见的，他对苔丝所做的一切，根本不是出自他对苔丝的爱，因为爱是高尚的，他对苔丝只有情欲可言，丝毫没有爱的根据。然而，苔丝并没有因为亚历克给她带来的打击而不纯洁，她自始至终都是那么的纯洁，善良，都显得那么美丽。

《苔丝》被称为英国文学和世界文学的瑰宝，出版于十九世纪末，作者是英国伟大的批判现实主义作家，“一个耸立在维多利亚时代和新时代交界线上的忧郁形象”——托马斯。哈代。

《苔丝》写的是社会把一个纯洁、质朴、正直、刻苦、聪明、美丽的农村姑娘逼得走投无路，终于杀人而被判绞刑的故事。这是一个悲剧，它无情地批判了社会现实，也从一个侧面揭露了英国上流社会的腐朽堕落，具有很强的现实意义。

苔丝是一个普通的农村姑娘，但作为女人，她拥有迷人的外表。漂亮的脸蛋，和恰到好处的身材。哈代给这个人物以重墨描绘，那就是着重写了她的外在形象。这个形象年轻美貌，天真活泼。给我映象最深的是她性感的嘴唇，和她唇上的曲线。粉嫩娇艳，如花沾露的唇，再加之细致分明，乖巧柔美的线条，在顾盼流转间，不动人也难。就是这样一位年轻美丽质朴的姑娘，她善良纯真的天性却被狠毒自私的上流社会的一位青年贵族亚力克利用欺骗，始终不能摆脱亚力克的阴影，而走向黑暗的深渊。她无力摆脱这种悲惨命运，只能用极端扭曲的方式对加在她身上的压迫进行反抗。可是这反抗又有什么用呢？只不过是大海中的一朵浪花，瞬间就会消失，被人们所遗忘，完全不可能动摇整个冷酷残忍的社会。所以说，只靠个人力量的反抗，根本不起作用。这也是人性乃至社会的悲哀。

当她好不容易逃离亚力克的魔掌，随后去农场工作，并遇见了自己今后所爱的人——克莱尔，克莱尔欣赏苔丝的纯真可爱，在工作中交流频繁，感情不断升温，最后坠入爱河并义无反顾地结婚了。就在幸福快要来临时，因为苔丝的对过去不堪往事的吐露，导致两人从幸福的高空一下子跌入了现实的谷底。克莱尔因为接受不了这一事实，毅然离开苔丝，远走他乡，无情地抛弃了可怜的苔丝。就是这样一位遭到命运戏弄的可怜人儿，想要与爱的人在一起幸福生活，就连这样一个简单平凡的愿望也没法实现，最终走投无路，惶惶不可终日，再加上亚力克的骚扰，她万念俱灰，对生活完全失去了希望，而动了杀念，杀死了侮辱她的，一直让她痛不欲生的亚力克。在杀死了亚力克之后，苔丝并没有为此后悔难过，而是一下次轻松了，因为死对于她来说是一种解脱，她终于自由了。她以死来证明自己对爱情的忠诚，来成全自己和克莱尔纯洁美好的爱情而没有遗憾。亚力克也为当初抛弃苔丝而感到后悔，带着巨大的悲痛与歉疚归来，并与即将被处死的苔丝度过了她生命最后五天快乐的时光。但是他失去了一个深爱她的人，一个把他当做生命一部分的人，一个可以为了他去死的人。可是后悔已经来不及了，因为他的自私和所谓的虚伪道德的约束，而使苔丝陷入悲惨的境地。对于苔丝来讲，克莱尔是她的希望，是她一切快乐的源泉，她为认识他而感到幸福，可是克莱尔把她最后一点希望也给抹灭了，即使后来克莱尔请求苔丝的原谅，以及在苔丝死后怀念追忆她，也无济于事。可以说，克莱尔也间接促成苔丝的死亡，但是直接促使她走向死亡的还是这个社会，是社会的悲剧。其实社会中像苔丝这样的可怜人很多，他们虽然身份卑微，但他们作为独立的人格，不应该被社会歧视抛弃，而是应该为他们提供一个可以倾诉的平台。这样才不会出现如此多的悲剧。

如果说卡门的美在于野性叛逆，简爱的美在于倔强顽强，那么苔丝的美一定在于纯净自然，她是大自然的女儿。她的纯洁就像蓝天一样，虽然偶而会被乌云遮住，可是当乌云散去，世界上最纯净透明的依然是蓝天。虽然小说女主人公身份低贱，遭受了无耻之徒的玩弄和侮辱，历经重重磨难，最后走上了错误的道路，但我们依然赞美苔丝不屈服于命运，敢于和不公平命运做斗争以及为爱奉献的精神，她单纯善良的形象将永远留在我心中，挥之不去。
